When first visited in the early 1990s, this site was under the ownersship of a company called MiddleBrook Mushrooms. Lister 50888 was typically the working loco over this period and had very distinctive weatherboarding fitted roughly to the canopy of the loco.

The wagons in use were possibly the most rustic of all the peat railways still in operation in the 1990s. 2 sets of 4 wagons were in use, with an empty set being pushed out to the moss, while the full wagons were emptied into the grader and elevator.

Looking to the moors, the refueling point was positioned just in front of the point for the baloon loop through the works sheds.

Walking along the railway. it just blended in perfectly in the bucolic setting, as it meandered for the first half mile through the trees.

Near the works there was the upturned remains of one of the timber wagons. The main timbers can easily be seen with the internal wheel bearings. In this case it is easy to see why this chassis had been discarded. The severe wheel wear probably causing major problems running through any pointwork.

Immediately behind the tipping shed, was an ajoining shed which the main line ran through and two points provided 2 sidings with very limited space for spare locos and wagon repairs. alan Keef No.4 was the spare loco, while the sad remains of Lister Blackstone 52528 lie in the shadows behind.

On the 23rd of June 1992, the usual Lister has just negotiated the baloon loop and is gently pushing the rake of 4 wagons out to be loaded.

This operation did not harvest block peat after drying on the surface for a season or so, the excavator which was also operated by the loco driver, dug out wet peat and loaded directly into the wagons.

After driving back from the loading area, the lister turns onto the main straight run through the trees back to the works.

Driving back at barely more than walking speed, it was easy to keep ahead of the train for a few photographs on its return.

The last occasion the railway was visited was 1999 and other than the ominous presence of large caterpiller tracked machinery scattered around, the railway was operating as it had always done. The loco halted by the fuel tanks and a small jug was filled to tip into the small fuel tank on the Lister.

Catching up with the train as it just started it's journey back from the loading area, the moors were starting to look more overgrown than in previous years.

The typical view of a full train returning for unloading.

After pulling in the last load of peat for the afternoon, the Lister is 'walked' into the next shed with the empty wagons.

The last sight was that of the Lister being put to bed for the day with a rake of empty wagons behind ready to take out for the next day. Sadly it was only just over a year later that the railway ceased working, although the peat works continued operating. All three locos sat in the shed for many years with various offers of purchase being refused. It was only in 2020 that the locos and other remains of the railway were recovered for preservation.
