There are reported to be at least 14 active narrow gauge railways in Lithuania. Unfortunately the last state owned ng line centred at Panevezys ceased regular operations in 2001, with freight ceasing 2 years before. This line is being re-developed as a tourist line. Nearly all the currently known industrial systems are associated with the peat industry which is still very active across the whole country.
