It is surprising with the profusion of secondary and narrow gauge railway systems in the past, that France did not possess more in the way of recent industrial narrow gauge railways. Interest in their industrial railway heritage was slow to take off, but is on the increase now.
In recent years several systems had been discovered still to be working but inevitably these have all but disappeared leaving just a couple of traditional industrial systems still working in the country.
