In recent years, various types of narrow gauge railways have been found operating in the Ukraine. Although typically the motive power and rolling stock have been standardised, there were, and still are, a variety of industries served. As well as the often reported peatworks, forestry railways, and sugar beet railways, railways serving brickworks, quarries, and mines have been found. Sadly much of the state run common carrier narrow gauge, have lost freight services, leaving passenger trains to service often remote communities.
